Cycling in Switzerland - June 2001

'2001, A Swiss Odyssey'

This was an eleven night trip, from 20th June to 1st July, staying at three locations in Switzerland, Murten, Meiringen and Andermatt, staying three nights at each hotel. Our group of 28 cyclists, "Pédaleurs de Charme", travelled by coach. We had an overnight stop each way in France en route, at Noisy Le Grand on the way out, and just outside Reims on the way back.

Thanks to Geoff Smith and Rico Signore who did an excellent job of organising the trip, booking hotels and the coach, and planning routes.

Notable highlights included: a day's ride with the President of the local Swiss Cycling Club; cycling over Grimsel Pass (2165m / 7150ft) and Furka Pass (2431m / 7974ft) in freezing cold, rain, low cloud and thunder and lightning
